BoYoung Jung actively pursues her independent artistic practice alongside her long-term sculptural collaboration with Emmanuel Wolfs as the duo WOLFS+JUNG. Her recent two-dimensional works, including ink on hanji paper and textiles, explore how our lived experiences are shaped by the dimensions of time and space, influencing memory and identity.
Jung's philosophical inquiries began with the WOLFS+JUNG tree sculptures. The process of connecting and harmonizing countless pieces of bark fostered an intuitive understanding of trees as living entities that embody cycles of repetition and transformation. This foundation naturally evolved into her works using ink on mulberry hanji paper, collage, and textiles, and continues to inspire her solo practice, where she meditates on the continuous flow of existence and the constant process of becoming.
Her abstract compositions, built through meditative and repetitive mark-making and the reconstruction of multiple layers of images, reflect on the bodily experience of time and the interconnectedness of different living environments.
Additionally, her textile series, <Korean Composition: 18_22_34_43_56_80>, which uses traditional Jogakbo patchwork and the five primary Obangsaek colors, examines the spatial and cultural transformations of modern Korean society and their influence on Korean identity. This work has been included in the permanent collection of the M+ Museum in Hong Kong.
